How to open ZIP files with the Notes app on your iPhone

With iOS 9 Apple introduced a nearly new app notes, with a lot more options, and one of them has almost gone unnoticed, although it is the most powerful and useful that you can find.

If we find ourselves with a ZIP file while we sailed with safari we will not be able to do anything with it because Safari on iPhone is not prepared to work with this file type, however we can send it to the Notes app. Part of being able to open it there and view its contents, we can use the App notes as an excellent way to store and organize this type of files.

How to save, organize and view ZIP files in the App notes

For the example we are going to save a ZIP file that we created expressly for this tutorial and we have sent by mail.

From the Mail app on your iPhone if you can decompress and see the ZIP files, but the method that we use to save it in the App of notes is exactly the same that we should use if this type of files we are found in Safari or any other application that is not able to open them.

It is very simple and will serve, watch as is done:

Step 1 - Locate the ZIP file that you want to store in the App Notes, tap it and leave it pressed until the Share menu.

Step 2 - When the share menu select the app of notes.

Step 3 - Now you will be seeing a pop-up window, here you can put text to the new note that is created by default….

…or you can also choose to add this ZIP file to one of the notes that you have already created earlier

Step 4 - Now we are going to the App of notes and seek the new note that we just created to save the ZIP file, or we have added if we opted for that option.

Step 5- Within the note we will see our ZIP file, simply press on it….

…And we will be viewing its contents.

a few things more…..

1- When you open a ZIP file shows the content of the first element on the screen. You can move from one file to another by sliding your finger from right to left.

2- The App of notes is able to show you a lot of different file formats, these are:

.jpg, .tiff, .gif (images)
.doc and .docx (Microsoft Word)
.ppt, and .pptx (Microsoft PowerPoint)
.txt (text)
.rtf (Rich Text)
.vcf (contact cards)
.xls and .xlsx (Microsoft Excel)
.zip
.ics
.htm and .html (Web Pages)
.key (Keynote)
.numbers (Numbers)
.pages (pages)
.pdf,

3- If you want to have a quick view of all the files that are included in the ZIP file, tap the icon with horizontal streaks that you will see in the bottom right of the screen.

4- If within the ZIP file you find a file that is in a format that is not supported by the app you can select notes and send it to an application installed that if you can open by using the option of sharing of iOS.

This is all, did you know as powerful as you can get to be the app of notes from your iPhone?
